Welcome to my website!
I study how organizations respond to contested social issues like inequality, climate change, and diversity, and why those issues persist. My research examines this two-way relationship through two questions: (1) how these issues shape the way organizations communicate, often in ways that backfire on them and their leaders; and (2) how organizations’ actions and individuals’ own psychology, in turn, sustain the issues.
I investigate these questions through phenomena such as how leaders communicate about race, how companies relabel their diversity commitments, and how mandatory policies can lead people to deny that a problem exists.
Across these projects, I use diverse methods such as experiments, large-scale archival and field data, and text and content analysis, often with culturally and racially diverse samples.
